Noble Creatures – the Bald Eagles of Reelfoot Lake

January 30th, 2010

A couple of weekends ago we went with two other couples to a B&B and went to Reelfoot Lake to see if we could see some bald eagles. I had my 80-200 zoom and had considered renting a 200-500 zoom from the rental company around the corner. The folks at the ranger station said I’d need at least a 40x scope to see them up close (which translates into 2000+ mm), so I did not rent the lens, but I now wish I had. While we were driving around we saw these eagles in the trees right beside the road. They really are magnificent creatures, because there was a wounded one back at the ranger station that I could see up close. I think I want to go back with the proper camera gear to get more up-close-and-personal.

Some great photos – I’d love to get shots of a bald eagle for an album cover! Take care.

These are incredible. I’m sure photographing a bald eagle is no easy task. Nice work.
